Wastewater Treatment

BSG have completed the Design and Build Construction of 294 Waste Water Treatment Works to date from 85,000 pe down to minor works.

In a total of 872,000,000 man hours we have had only minor safety issues with the end dates on all schemes an improvement on the planned execution. BSG have built up extensive expertise in the phasing of schemes built within the footprint of the existing site while achieving continued compliance and ensuring continued access for the operating authority.

Antrim WwTW

Value: £22m

The upgrade of the Treatment Works at Milltown included the DAP Works in the catchment. The increase in PE from 30,000 to 85,000 as well as a more stringent discharge standard required the addition of secondary treatment. A very successful sludge import and export centre was designed and installed receiving problematic minor works imports and producing sludge cake for the incinerator to a dry solids content in excess of 28%. Re-use of the existing assets ensured a VFM solution minimising programme.

Cookstown WwTW

Value: £12m

The Cookstown Scheme was for the design, procurement, construction, mechanical and electrical installation, operation and maintenance, take-over testing and performance testing of the Works to meet the performance guarantees, the Contract Specifications and declared objectives. The upgraded works serves a design load of 35,500 PE within the boundaries of the existing WwTW using the SBR process with specific design features to enhance the adjacent Ballinderry River including in river improvement works at the outfall.

Ballynahinch WwTW

Value: £5.1m

On an extremely restricted site Ballynahinch Treatment Works was extended to serve a PE of 14,600. The D&B Award included all process, M&E and civil elements including a period of operation. The refurbishment included bringing part of the site out of the flood plain and included a bespoke Tertiary Treatment Unit specifically designed for the requirements of the influent from the town and surrounding areas. There were 7 phases of construction each having full process testing ensuring continued compliance before the next step.

Ballycastle WwTW

Value £6.2m

The scheme involved the construction and associated MEICA installations of a new WwTW within the confines of an existing WwTW and extended land take in Ballycastle. The construction work included: 4 pumping stations, Emergency Storage Tank, Inlet Screening works, Aeration Lanes, Final Settlement Tanks, Sludge Processing Facility and associated Holding Tanks, Control Building and 2 nr Control Kiosks. A phased construction programme was required to maintain operation and treatment from the existing plant during construction of the new works.
